november's netflixing [watching]
november was a bit crazy so i didn't watch much.
"why be good?: sexuality and censorship" - kind of a recap if you know film history but it is nice to brush up now and then with these sort of pieces.
"great bank hoax" / "great bank robbery" - i got this one to finally see kim novak in "the great bank robbery" (1969). also on the disc was "the great bank hoax" (1978). both are very similar except that "the great bank robbery" was actually pretty funny and well put together. i much prefer it to "the great bank hoax", which is more like some ok movie you might watch when you're up at night with nothing else to do.
"the pyongyang concert" - the new york philharmonic orchestra performs in north korea (dprk), so of course they will not just perform and everything will be documented. some of their extra activities included giving lessons to gifted students. it was really interesting and touching to me to see this kind of footage. one student seemed stoic and that's fine. it could be the society or the culture or her personality. however, another girl seemed very excited over the master lesson and you could almost see her tear up and want to learn more. i'm not sure if it necessarily means she wants to leave her country to study abroad but it's nice to see when music can break down barriers.
"casablanca" - super famous and even though in high school i'd watch a lot of movies on the american movie classics channel and was a film major in college, i never saw this film until now. did it become one of my beloved films? no. did i need to see this film to know the classic quotes from it? no. can i cross it off my list? yes. however, since it is such a classic and i didn't shun it, it'd be worth watching again at a later time.
"lawrence of arabia" - again, trying to see the famous films. just couldn't get into this one.
