the dead weather [listening]
just got back from seeing the dead weather at the glass house in pomona. on the drive back home, we could see the wildfires burning in the distance.
the opening band was tyvek. not into them.
the dead weather are really good. i've been listening to them for the past 2 days non-stop in preparation for the concert. but for me, the concert experience is all about being in front. we didn't arrive early enough to be in front. plus, it was really hot inside so we backed off to be away from the bulk of the crowd (not to mention the crazy guy in front of us who was really bugging). it was good to see jack white on the drums. i didn't know that for these shows he's also stepping out and playing guitar. that was a nice bonus. the live version of "no hassle night" was quite different than the album. there were several cover songs and i got a sense of what they might be from some show reviews online but i'm not sure of all the songs.
setlist:
60 feet tall
hang you from the heavens
jawbreaker
you just can't win (them cover)
so far form your weapon
rocking horse
bone house
(not sure of the song, lyrics were something like "i don't want you to like me, i don't want you to touch me, watch my cigarette smoking on itself")
(not sure of the song, lyrics were something like "teach you, i can't hear you")
no hassle night (jack white on guitar then went to the drums in the middle of the song)
forever my queen (pentagram cover)
new pony
encore:
i cut like a buffalo
treat me like your mother
will there be enough water (jack white on guitar, jack lawrence on drums)
