camping day 2 [traveling]

lion at cat haven

boy, did we have rough night's sleep! the mattress was not full and the night was cold. thus, in order to fully recharge, we slept in and got a late start. for breakfast we had tofu scramble, potatoes, and topped it off with some dessert leftovers from last night. i was so hungry that i forgot to take a picture. i washed my face with cold water and i'm not a fan of washing my face with cold water.

we made some hummus sandwiches for lunch and went to cat haven. it's about halfway down the mountain and it's easy to miss the sign for it. we ate the sandwiches before we even entered the place. i can't remember all the big cats we saw but it included tigers, lions, clouded leopard, snow leopard, jaguarundis, bobcats, and a siberian lynx.

in front of general grant

after that we went back to grant grove village to check out the visitor center and gift shop. then we had "lunch" around 4pm at camp (burgers again) and went to see one o the huge trees that people come here to see, general grant. we walked around those giant sequoias and then it was back to camp for dinner. this time it was fire cooking instead of using the gas grill. we had veggie dogs in crescent rolls on metal skewers (saw this on the internet), more corn, and for dessert we had apples with butter and cinnamon. crescent rolls are one of those accidentally vegan things but i still have issues with red #40 (read that it's made from coal as opposed to the insect myth) so i searched for version of the rolls without it--think it was the lite version or something like that. we seriously overdosed on those doggie rolls as there were only two of us to finish them off.

today's tips: bring a cutting board! i forgot to bring this. we had to cut potatoes on our nice plate designed for camping so there are some little scars on the plate :(
