bruno, not in 3-d unfortunately [watching]
i went to see "bruno", which was not in 3-d unfortunately. it started off funny as hell and then it was downhill, much like "the simpsons movie". i'm not sure exactly what went wrong. it's not like it was all bad. i just felt like it was too much like "borat" in that it's a pseudo-documentary of bruno in america, how he falls and tries to rise again. "ali g" was not like that. i guess i expected another kind of take on one of sacha baron cohen's characters turned into a movie and not a repeat of the last one. however, if that's what sells then go with it. what i find most interesting about this kind of film, much like "borat", is when he is completely in character and does not break but others don't know he's playing a character. it's amazing to see what some people are like and how they let themselves behave around others, be filmed, or sign a release for it. all you have to do is what the baby photoshoot tryouts when bruno interviews the parents of the babies to know what i'm talking about. also, the christian preacher (i can't remember his exact title) who talks so low of women. my god, how is he ever gonna live that one down among the women he has to deal with everyday for the rest of his life? this film may play off the worst of people, of their hate and prejudice (this time homophobia, last time xenophobia), but how it can turn the tables and show a mirror to our society, that's what i like, that along with the laughing. i feel like maybe many are going to have a good laugh at gays (like the guy in the audience whom i heard saying that he wants the straight dave t-shirt featured at the end of the film) but overall what i like is how it makes you laugh and makes you think. at least i hope some people are walking away from the theater thinking, not just laughing how they'd like to have a t-shirt from the film.
