june's netflixing [watching]

here's what i netflixed in june.

"everything is illuminated" - i don't know if anyone specifically raved about this but i feel like there was a buzz about it so i wanted to see it without knowing the story. it was alright. it had it's funny moments. but i don't see myself going crazy over this. possibly i would read the book.

"loco love" - this was a dumb film but it had laura harring and i wanted to watch querida laura. it was just charming enough. it wasn't so bad. it's like watching a free movie on tv just because it's on and it was just good enough. for me the treat was at the very end when everyone is dancing because i know in real life laura loves to dance so i wanted to see what her moves are. except i didn't really see any moves but that's ok.

"that obscure object of desire" - surrealist! how very interesting that the same role was played by two women. i didn't catch this at the very beginning when the switch was first made but it made me wonder if other films could use this technique. this isn't something that would work in books i think. it needs to be seen. to see the manners and expressions of two different actresses. it's kind of like how people are though. we have different personalities we exhibit, depending on our mood.

"the leopard" - ah, a historical drama showing the plight of a rich italian family as told by luchino visconti. plus you get to see some actors and actresses when they were young and beautiful. i'm not into historical rich families so much but it was really much more interesting than it sounds. if you like older italian films, then i say why not.

"young buckethead: vol.1 & 2"
"buckethead: secret recipe"
these three buckethead dvds were something i was going to purchase when they first came out, but it was around then that i decided to start saving my money and not buying everything by every artist i listen to. i'm glad that i didn't buy them. these weren't that good. you have to really be a diehard buckethead fan. i was glad to see certain moments in the young buckethead clips and anyone really into buckethead should at least rent these. the secret recipe was a cool concept but i don't like navigating through the maze. the old me would've recorded all the audio clips in there but i'm not that avid collector anymore.
