she wants revenge in downtown los angeles [listening]
we just went to see she wants revenge at the globe theater in downtown los angeles but it looks like it's now just called the 740 club. we have seen the band several times but this is the first time we've ever been so close to the stage. there was no barrier inbetween the stage and the audience, just a couple of security guards who wished they weren't packed like sardines. in fact, while the opening bands were playing, we saw she wants revenge members on the side of the stage. anyone could walk there so fans started taking pictures with them. if we weren't right in front, we probably would have too. but this was our first chance to be up close so we didn't want to lose our spot. the opening bands were war tapes (ok, that emo kind of look but sort of retro sound like she wants revenge, shoegazing guitar perhaps?) and gran ronde (who started off ok but got real boring but i woke up during there cover of "do it clean" by echo and the bunnymen).
she wants revenge have either bought a new keyboard or a new module for it. i don't know how else to describe it. it seems like a thing keyboard players have. when they get gear with a new sound, they exploit it on all the new songs they make and that's it. so to me it comes off as a trend, a period marker, and dare i say a gimmick. all the new songs they played had that sound and it was getting old quick. but i was glad to hear new songs. i'm not sure why the singer always looks like he doesn't give a shit about how he looks. he always looks like he's wearing his backstage getting ready outfit when he should be wearing his i'm on stage performing outfit. sometimes i just get tired of bands who put no effort into being a performer. anyone can walk out on stage in that celebrity incognito everyday everyman look of t-shirt/jeans/beanie, but how about giving us a show? anyway, it was ok. short set though. not bad for a last minute decision for us to go out.
