down by the sea is where you drown your scars [uncoupling]
my ex- is back in town. i took her out for a good vegan breakfast. i know what it's like to travel and not able to eat well, just kind of surviving on junk. when you come home, you want some good vegan food. that's the kind of comfort i wanted to give. while she was out of town, i found out that follow your heart, the makers of vegenaise, have a market/cafe in canoga park. i read their menu. damn. it was set. i had to take her there for breakfast. we went and walking into the store was like walking into santa cruz. we both almost cried. we miss those damn hippies. the food was incredibly awesome. we bought a couple things from the store.
then we drove over the hill to malibu. i can't say that i've ever been to malibu. in fact, i don't think either of us have been. that is what made it perfect. somewhere new to see. we went to leo carrillo state beach. from malibu to santa monica, man, the beaches were packed! up and down was it packed because it's the first really hot and sunny weekend in awhile. just ridiculous. i am not a daytime beach person so i didn't even think about crowds. the water was gorgeous though. i have never seen the california ocean so beautiful, so blue. i could have cried again. just amazing. it's deceptive though as it's still the same old ice cold california water that i have no idea how anyone can swim in. i put my feet in for a little bit and said no thanks. despite how beautiful it was, i took some black and white photos for that nostalgia look. i love being in the moment and taking a black and white shot, transporting one back 40 years at least. overall, a nice day.
