april's netflixing [watching]

shit i watched in april.

"the caller" - i got this to see laura harring. period. not much laura. kind of just barely interesting plot. slow pace. hitchcock could've done so much more. more laura please. that could've saved things. laura! laura! laura!

"downfall" - damn this was good! hitler's last days in the bunker told from the point of view of his secretary. if you're into this sort of thing, definitely a must watch.

"blind spot: hitler's secretary" - the documentary on the secretary that inspired "downfall". pretty good. i feel like the 2 complete each other. i don't want to spoil things. you just need to watch them both.

"bolt" - when the trailers were out, i was soooo not interested in this movie but the hamster character seemed funny. wow, this was a lot better than i thought it would be... a lot better! very typical kind of tale for children though as we've already experienced from "toy story". that the character thinks he is the fictional character with super powers but he's not, just a regular person (toy, or dog in this case). this is mixed in with feelings of abandonment (woody feels abandoned by andy in "toy story", for example). then you've got the side kick characters who are really funny (the hamster!). anyway, cute, fun, again one of those watch if you're into that sort of thing things.

"chronicles of narnia: prince caspian" - woooh, slow it down people.. what the hell is going on? why is this popular? i recognize a beach i think i went to in new zealand. that's about it. boring. i wonder if i should even bother reading the books now.

"deep red" - dario argento horror film that just feels so damn italian. and by that i mean you have a cast of various nations and languages. these all get mixed in. you have them speaking one language, then being dubbed in another, and sometimes there are subtitles and sometimes there are not. but overall you get a sense of what's going on. for its time, i'd say this was pretty gross and scary. there were a couple scenes that made me cringe and that doesn't happen often.

"equilibrium" - a dystopic film that i felt like somehow recalled too heavily on the elements of the its predecessors, the dystopic classics of "1984", "brave new world", etc. while trying to borrow hip elements of the popular "matrix" so that people will want to see it. i did think it was a good film, an enjoyable story, but i found myself too often thinking of other works to really appreciate the film on its own and see it as an original piece.

"the faculty" - robert rodriguez film. i've seen bits on cable years ago but i wasn't sure if i saw the whole thing. i want to see all his movies so i had to be sure that i saw the whole thing. it's ok. not too bad for a teen flick but i don't need to see it again.
