welcome to crystal lake [watching]

happy friday the 13th!

this morning i went through my own bit of hell. i went to the department of motor vehicles. i just can't find my car registration and don't want to tear apart the entire house looking for it. plus, i'm tired of not driving anyway because i'm scared to get a ticket. so i went to the dmv and couldn't find parking because it was so crowded. the streets right next to the dmv require a permit to park on the street. yeah, that's how they get you. so i parked at a church. god will forgive me. then i waited outside, the line was that long. once i got inside and got a number, i waited some more. (aren't you jealous?) i was staring at the pamphlets in various languages, proud of my state's diversity. but where's the language of my ancestry? gee thanks for ignoring us! actually, we're not that many and we don't like having babies so i understand. i got kicked out of waiting in that area too by the way. the security man who had been nice before kicked me out so i thought he was joking when he told me i can't stand there. "ok, next time i'll bring a chair". he didn't laugh. he pointed me to an area that was past a sign that said it was for applicant's only. um, aren't i breaking the rules? whatever.

i wait. finally my number gets called. the lady is a little mean at first but then she warms right up. i had my form completed before i even got to the dmv, the one that says i'm an idiot because i lost my registration and sticker so i need a replacement. she questioned me if i really lost it or didn't receive it. i could see where she was going. "well i'm not sure. i thought i saw it arrive in the mail but there's more than one car in my household and both expire in the same month." "i think you never received it. so it's free." thank you!!! she gave me a printout of my registration and another paper which i took back over to redeem for my sticker. now i can drive without fear! now i can instill fear in others with my driving! hahaha just kidding. i will drive safely!

not take on friday the 13th

at night we were wandering around the mall and decided to watch a movie. the one with the best timing was "friday the 13th". i have not seen the whole series, just the first 2 and bits of some others i think. i must say that this new one wasn't so bad at all. if you like jason movies, then i'd recommend it. i don't want to give things away, but i'm not sure i've ever seen a major horror figure who kidnaps a victim. usually they just massacre them. not that i've seen ever series out there but nothing came to mind. so for that, it has a slight unique take. it's a pretty classic jason movie, sort of like parts 1 and 2 in modern times. the action all takes place near the old camp site by crystal lake. there's plenty of young people who party so they get whacked. the scenes are more about anticipation and people dying than being bloody and gory. the blood and other effects are just enough. but still, i don't recommend young ones see this even though i've been watching horror movies since i was about 6 years old. (i think that's when i saw the original "friday the 13th".) so if you're thinking about seeing this one, just do it. and if your date is squeamish, well there's plenty of times when they can snuggle up against you if you are into that. me, i'm glued to the screen the whole time. bring it on voorhees!
