a day at the aquarium [uncoupling]

today was a valentine's lunch date with my ex-. yes, slap me all you want. we're still best friends and she offered to take me out to eat. the parking lot was charging a flat rate so instead of just eating and leaving, we decided to hang around. that's how we ended up going to the aquarium of the pacific in long beach. there were a lot of people there. lots of families. screaming kids and pushy parents, these are a few of our favorite things, NOT!!

however, i had lots of fun interacting with the animals. i don't think i've ever fed a lorikeet before but i've been to places where you can feed them. it's always been her feeding the lorikeets while i take her picture. now it's my turn! actually, we both fed the lorikeets. (don't ask me why non-aquatic birds are at the aquarium.) the lorikeets seemed like they were already stuffed and weren't interesting in the nectar we had. but we found one willing to investigate our goods. it then became more interested in investing the person feeding it. at one point i'm saying to the bird, "dude, get off of her!" like it understood! it had tried to eat her earrings. what else was i supposed to do? we can't touch the birds. after that little incident, it was my turn to feed the birds! damn, they really liked me. i had two on my arm. then a third flew on me. it started nibbling on my earrings too. help! when a bird is that close to you, you're afraid it will bite. but also, it's quite ticklish in a way. one of the birds decided to rearrange my hair. or maybe it was trying to eat my hair. see what happens when you use natural products?

after the birds were more animals. this time, a petting pool filled with sharks and rays. yes, very exciting. the rays feel like jellies and the sharks feel like rough feet. it was much easier to pet the sharks. i really wanted to pet the big rays that were in the pool but they placed themselves just out of reach. i barely touched one as it swam by. the pool is much deeper than it appears and so it's better if you're wearing short-sleeves or no sleeves at all. my sweater sleeve was rolled up and it got wet. the large rays were actually kind of scary. they had long tails that were white and looked sick. i'm not sure if that's how they're supposed to look or they just got their stingers snipped but it wasn't too pretty to look at. i went around all over the damn pools to try to touch the big rays but that little brush i had was all i was going to get. i was able to touch a couple smaller rays but they also were a little scary. only because sometimes they would start flapping at the side, coming out of the water like they were trying to get you back, hahahaha
