camp freddy december residency #1 [listening]
every tuesday this month except for the very last one, camp freddy will be playing at the roxy and again i will be going to these shows. last night was the first night. they tend to play classic rock, which i'm not a fan of so i don't know most of the songs nor who sings them. plus i never seem to manage to grab a setlist but that's ok because the band later posts what they played and i can always search my memory banks and stare at my photos to work out what was probably the song/guest order.
the opening bands were the leo project and drive a. the leo project want to be heavy, or at least the drummer wants to be metal but he's held back by the other guys who want to sing like they're in creed or something. i say, play faster and you guys will rock the house. the songs start off hard, but then they go limp when the singing starts. the drummer is really good though so i hope they start playing more faster/harder songs. drive a is drive a. i've seen them before and i probably gave my thoughts before. they're kids. they're getting better but they're still kids. the singer keeps improving but i don't think he should be the singer, sorry.
for the guests, i was impressed by abby gennet. i have never heard of her. she's married to brett scallions (fuel). she delivered a solid "whole lotta love". i'm not a zeppelin person but the people who can cover them well are always impressive. the singer of godsmack? not impressed. never liked them, probably never will. it also bugs me when the guests don't know the lyrics. but i realize they pull the setlist out of their asses. but still, guests should be somewhat prepared. rocker gone old moment: duff mckagan rocking out while wearing glasses, then hung them from his shirt like it was sunglasses.
