almost everything is closed in df [traveling]

this morning i had cereal for breakfast, the granola i got yesterday from nutrisa. then we went to el chopo, which i've been dying to go to ever since i first heard about it in the mid/late 1990s! yeah, long time coming. i'm sure back then i would have gone crazy buying lots of stuff but now i've got a decent record collection and am less materialistic. plus, i don't feel the need to collect like i used to. so i just wandered around and didn't get anything. i thought if i get anything, i have to consult twiddle thumbs and since she wasn't there, i just won't get anything until we go together. but now i know where it is so i'm happy. there were a lot more clothes for sale than i expected but now i know where to go when i need goth/rock clothes in df.

next door is the biblioteca vasconcelos, which i was very excited to check out after seeing a picture of it online. it was closed for renovations for a long time and just reopened last month. however, they are closed again for christmas holidays! damn. we took a cab to museo rufino tamayo but it too was closed, so we walked across the street to the zoo. you know, next time i go to mexico city, it can't be during any holiday. the zoo is pretty big and decent. what's great about it is that it's free. it was fairly crowded. the people were going crazy taking pictures of squirrels. these are not animals on exhibit, just ones living in the trees. man, mexicans must really love squirrels or they just never see them in the city. if i had a taco for every person taking a picture, i'd never go hungry again.

back at the house, we had dinner downstairs with the family and each kid's good friends. this is a yearly tradition that sara tries to avoid but since i'm the guest, i don't think she had an excuse not to attend. it was good to meet everyone and i broke out the gifts because japanese are required to do so when visiting people. back upstairs we played some video games, talked with the friends, and watched tv.

i can't believe i didn't take any pictures today. so here's one of me and my roommate that i took yesterday. that's right, i'm staying in a room of several dolls but this one just called out to me because it's the bimbo bear! now if that isn't mexican, then i don't know what is.

dinner: green mole with soy meat stuff we got the day before at super soya.
