volunteering okinawan style [working]

from my flickr collection
kalavinka the lunch lady

today was the okinawa association of america bazaar, one of the major ways they raise money for the association. the young okinawans usually make spam musubi but it's time to shake things up and do something okinawan for once instead of hawaiian. we went with taco rice. unfortunately, there wasn't a big turnout this year, probably due to the poor economic health of the country, so i'm not even sure if we broke even. we had way too much food leftover at the end of the day. usually, we sell out. funny thing is, i've never had taco rice. i served myself up a vegan version (i brought soy meat for vegetarians and yes several people requested veggie version) and it was pretty good. twiddle thumbs's mom came over yesterday to make the salsa, two different kinds. so yeah, now i know how to make salsa. slowly, i am becoming mexican.
