serj tankian solo show [listening]
we just came back from seeing serj tankian's solo show at the wiltern. the opening act was bitter sweet, a wanna be portishead lounge act that i could have done without. serj did join them for one song. serj's set was good but all it does is make me miss system of a down. i didn't like serj's intro to the song money. he mentioned the greed of money or something. i can't remember. i just remember thinking he's a hypocrite because he bought his new zealand citizenship. he wasn't allowed to purchase a home there (a lot of foreign celebrities get rejected for various reasons) and the next year or so i hear that he's become a citizen. obviously, he paid his way into the country. visas and citizenships can be bought for most countries. it requires a large investment in the country that most of us ordinary folks cannot do, or at least none of the people i know. to top it off, during the encore serj covered the dead kennedys. i would have preferred he sing "california uber alles" to show that he's still one of us despite becoming a kiwi.
