vegas, cirque, and drinks [traveling]
i took off work today to go to las vegas. i know i just started but i had planned this before i got the job so before i accepted it, i told them that i'd need this day off. with some money that i got as birthday/christmas gifts i decided i was going to see bjork in concert afterall. i didn't buy tickets right away because they were too expensive. then the LA show sold out so we got tickets for las vegas. i've never been to a concert in vegas so that's one more thing i can cross off my list. we drove to vegas today and were wandering around some hotels, just checking things out as usual. we wanted to check out planet hollywood since it's new. it's not newly built, just bought out, and we wanted to see how the remodeling went. well, it seems they didn't try hard at all and there's nothing about it that screams hollywood. luckily the shops are still there and we had that delicious tofu burger that we had last time. unfortunately, we learned there is some cheese in it. now i can't it anymore. as i ate it, i was fine with that because it wasn't as good as i remembered.
we only planned on seeing bjork this weekend but totally at the last minute we saw the cirque du soleil production of "ka". we were wandering the mgm and for shits and giggles asked if there were any tickets available for "ka". much to our surprise there were decent seats for the show that started 5 minutes ago. i made a quick decision that we should watch it. we've been wanting to see a vegas cirque production for a long time and if we say no now, who knows how many years it will be before we ever see one. the show was pretty good but not great. again, i always have to bring this up, but we were spoiled by seeing "dralion" first. "ka" showed what cirque can be in a permanent theater. the rigging was so much more elaborate. also, we had seen a teaser clip of the show online and the wheel of death act was much more exciting online. tonight the performers were not at their best and rather than risking life and limb, they chose not to do anything stunning on the wheel of death and ended the act early. after the show we went to get some drinks which is really rare for me but i thought this trip i should lighten up and have one huge vegas drink, which i did. it was a pretty crappy frozen blended margarita thing that cost too much.
