microsoft japanese ime [geeking]
since i'm working at a company that requires japanese, they have windows machines with japanese ime and it's given me opportunity to explore this software. i was content with the japanese capabilities on the mac. that i could view and write japanese. that i could use web dictionaries to lookup words or kanji. but what i have been sorely lacking is the ime ability to draw kanji! if there is kanji you do not know how to read and it is not online, then you must figure out a way to look it up. sure i could crack open my actual kanji dictionary but what if it's not next to me? like when i'm at work. or what if i'm having difficulty finding it in the dictionary? that happened to me many times growing up. the ability to draw the kanji is a godsend. it makes it so much easier to look it up in an electronic dictionary. or maybe you know the kanji but you don't know what to type to bring it up. perhaps you only know an obscure reading of it or a common reading that produces too many kanji to choose from. my eyes are really opening up to this software and i must find out out if there is any way to draw kanji on the mac. i think i searched a couple years ago and found nada. perhaps something has developed since then.
