skull Projects

Another "project" of mine is to minimize my life and I'm starting off by selling (and a few trades) most of my music collection. For now I am only listing about 200 pieces at a time, otherwise it becomes too much to deal with. If you do not see what you are looking for, then email me which band you are interested in and I'll see if I have what you're looking for. half.com, ebay, amazon.com, lala.com

the sound of music [watching]

tonight i finally watched "the sound of music". i had never seen it before. hard to believe perhaps but i've been holding out on a few classics on purpose. i do know a little about the film because it's such a famous and widely loved film that it appears in other facets of pop culture. (when the kids in "the addams family values" are forced to watch "the sound of music", i felt their pain.) plus, when i was a kid i took a singing class at summer school and we learned some of the songs in the film.

from the very beginning, i was like, wow, the film is like this?! it starts off with that long, crap number? damn! and people like this film? wow! don't get me wrong, it's not entirely bad, but it's not entirely good either. i loved julie andrews as mary poppins but i don't dig the characters in this film. some parts are so cheesy that i can't believe it's from 1965. (i would've thought 1950s.) and it felt extremely drawn out and over-musicaled. perhaps the play has more to it than the film. or perhaps once you reach a certain, if you haven't seen the film yet, then you shouldn't see it at all. i'd put that age to be around 10-12.

it seems you missed out on this one. i adore the film - cheese and all. it's a classic. i think it works and the musical numbers are fantastic and this is coming from someone who DETESTS musicals!
