kenjinkai gathering [traveling]
today we got a better sense of our surroundings by venturing out a little further such as going to a cemetery and attending a kenjinkai gathering. i can't help but be self-centric and am not used to nikkeis living in countries other than america, or not in countries where they don't speak english. now i'm meeting with latin american nikkeis. what we have in common besides our japanese and specifically okinawan roots is that europe came over to the americas and colonized the land. as for language, i really wish i knew more than a few words of spanish. there are some here direct from okinawa and i even met a guy who remembers my mother back from high school. our photo together is blurry. the auto-focus focused on the background instead of the foreground. i blame it on letting other people borrow your camera. instead, here's a picture of my lunch. i had some alcohol today to try it 'cos that's what i do when i travel though i don't really drink at home. yeah, the shit is stronger in other countries! please give me my watered down fruity girly fancy schmancy drinks!
