today we hung out with nopalita and watched a few movies. back in the day when we first hung out with her, she didn't know very much about pop culture. much like how i had to train twiddle thumbs about american pop culture (she had never seen "star wars", for example), we had to train nopalita. i started to wonder if there was a pop culture void in los angeles barrios. i mean, what is it with these girls not knowing movies that were hugely popular. we used to joke around that we were the las vampiras school or camp because we'd train nopalita on pop culture. we made her watch so many movies. at first some things may have shocked her but she quickly desensitized. we thought she was well educated and had graduated. we were shocked to hear she has never seen an indiana jones movie in full. blasphemy! that's why we made her watch the very last one, "indiana and the last crusade". we told her a little bit about the other ones, especially when there were references to it.
