internet radio [listening]

i've been listening to music at work via last.fm lately as opposed to just playing music from my collection. the reason being that i put all my itunes and iphoto stuff into the tower at home that i want to use as my multi-media center. it's an older tower so it's slower and i'm still getting used to it. i plan to delete all the itunes and iphoto files from my laptop, the one i take to work and listen to music on. but i just can't delete them yet. not until i backup the tower so i know i have a redundant copies, not just the one on the tower. once the files are gone from my laptop, i won't be carrying around my music collection with me. i could go back to just playing music off my ipod, but i wanted to find some websites with music. listening to internet radio is giving me a taste of what's out there, bands i never got into, bands i never heard of, etc.

i've heard some good songs but mostly just so-so songs so i'm hitting the "never play me this song again" button a lot! the ones i am favoriting are songs by artists that i already love. i am surprised to hear influences on some songs. i can hear other bands' music being sung as a different song. this happened to 2 songs in a row--what are the odds of that?! first up was "heaven knows" by the mission. it came out in 1995. i swear to god that it's "pictures of you" by the cure though slightly sped up or more 'rock' with alternate lyrics. the next song was "a viable commercial" by modern english. it smacks of "in the flat field" by bauhaus. a lot of times i read about how certain songs sound like other works, works i am not familiar with. finally i spotted some on my own because they sound like music i listen to.
