we've got the internets! [geeking]

oh! my! god! we! got! internet! today!

"finally!" that's what most who know us will say. we don't want to pay for a phone line so we are not getting dsl. instead, we have internet through a cable tv provider. using the same cable that we'd normally get cable tv through, we have cable internet. the installation man tried to get us to get basic cable illegally by paying him some money and he'd hook it up for us. he said the cable company won't know. i don't think so. that doesn't sit with us morally.

back in june when we though we were getting cable internet, we bought an apple wireless unit so we could be, well wireless. it was so disappointing that day when we couldn't get the installation because the box outside the complex was locked and our landlord was abroad. twiddle thumbs knocked on the door of a neighbor who she thought had the key but he was not home. we kinda gave up then. we waited until the landlord returned. a painful wait of 6 weeks or so. turns out, that neighbor did have a key to the box, doh!

but here we are now stylin' with wi-fi! at first we were both trying to setup the home network together. it wasn't working and we were getting hot-tempered very quickly. too many cooks in the kitchen. or too many geeks at the computer. so then i backed off and let twiddle thumbs do it by herself. a couple trials and errors later and everything was working beautifully. the printer is hubbed now so anyone on the home network can print to it remotely. this is great because i can be in another room and print away.

i'm not sure how crazy we'll go with the wireless. i don't know how many devices we will setup. for example, i don't see the practicality of air tunes in our current living space. we don't have a big dance room with huge speakers mounted to the walls and a laptop where anyone can come up to and guest dj for awhile. maybe next year!

i just bought airport express a few days ago - should be arriving at the end of the week. I am interested in hooking up the printer and the stereo - for the sound quality (vs macbook pro speakers).

Like you, we don't have a dance floor but it would be nice not to have to listen to shitty sound while cooking and such.
