the labyrinth of the simpsons [watching]
this morning i was watching "pan's labyrinth". it's an ok movie. perhaps better than ok but i just can't imagine myself watching it again. it has nothing to do with pan. that's just the english title. the original title in spanish is faun, not pan. in the film there is a faun and it is not pan. i hope that clears something up. the film itself is perhaps a bit hard to categorize because it's set in history but it's not a historical film. it stars a child but it is not a children's film. anyway, if you've heard of it and have any interest, watch it.
as we watched it, twiddle thumbs explained to me about vosotros tense since i don't speak spanish and know nothing of it. all i know is what twiddle thumbs has told me. that essentially she does not know vosotros tense well because mexicans don't use it but she could understand the film. i had to do some research on my own to understand what the hell is so fucking different about vosotros tense. when i speak a language, i know jack shit about grammar and rules. i just speak. i just know if it sounds right or wrong. i don't care about technicalities. i don't care about dissecting sentences. that stuff is for teachers and the anal. maybe that's overstating it. what i'm trying to say is that today i learned what vosotros tense is. it's like saying y'all or you guys. it's informal. it addresses people in the plural. and the words change. the spelling is more like french or portuguese.
anyway, as i was watching the film, my back began to hur really bad. i couldn't sit down anymore. i had to stand up. that didn't help. so i went to lie down. and i slept. i was supposed to go to a meeting but i knew i couldn't sit through a meeting. i overslept. i think i was out for 5 hours. too long. what an unproductive day! i couldn't finish the day without doing anything. so i decided to go to the movies. maybe it wasn't the best choice but at least i left the house.
i went to see "the simpsons: the movie". it started off really good. so funny. right from the beginning through the first 30 minutes it was a non-stop laugh riot. and then it become more plot driven and the jokes dried up. in fact, i would say that if you like the tv show then watch the movie, but you don't have to watch it in a theater. i will say that there are a few jokes in the film that will be funnier if you are in a theater but you don't have to be.
