spread entertainment [watching]
today we left work early to rush and go see a taping of dave navarro's internet show, "spread entertainment". we were kinda curious what the show was like but wanted to wait until a guest we liked appeared on the show. finally it happened. the guests were margaret cho and gene simmons. i'm not a kiss fan, never liked them, but i love margaret cho, obviously since i made a fan site on her.
traffic was bad and i thought we'd miss the deadline to enter. it's a free taping and pretty low-key affair as it's new and only on the internet. therefore it was quite lax and we were still able to get in though it was about 10 minutes to taping. margaret was standing right in front of me and i thought this is my chance to talk to her. i had her sign a dvd of one of her stand-up shows. i didn't tell her i run a fan site. that's just too geeky. i've met her before like this, very quickly for an autograph but it's been such a long time. her comedy is much different now but her personality is still as strong and she'll always been very funny no matter what she's commenting on.
when it was gene simmons's turn to be interviewed, i didn't think i would be into it. afterall, if i'm not into his music why would i be into his interview? i had seen a bit of his reality show but that was a long time. his career persona is one thing but in the show you see the domesticated side and that came out again in the interview as his partner and son were there. (that boy is a walking beanstalk, tall and skinny.) they would shout down to his partner sometimes who was standing next to me and i tried to turn away so my face wouldn't be on camera! then they got her up on the interview chair as well. it was fun to watch their interaction actually so it was a good interview. both interviews seemed to have this theme of relationships and to be monogamous or not to be monogamous.
after the show was done taping, we just hung out for awhile and got dave to sign our vinyl copy of his solo album. we've gone to his shows for so many years that it's ridiculous that we only just got our vinyl signed! as we're standing there chatting away, gene simmons comes up to tell dave goodbye. then he turns to us and says, "goodbye ladies". that was unexpected. very nice of him. he must've thought we were someone important, hahahahaaa! after that, since we are in hollywood, we might as well have dinner at california vegan, yum! i ordered a curry which i very rarely do. it was my first time having curry there. the restaurant is owned by thais so i thought this is a good opportunity to have authentic thai curry and perhaps i should practice eating it if i ever go to thailand. japanese do curry quite differently and i think i've even had curry at an indian restaurant and chinese restaurant but this thai version was another take on it. it was like a soup with a side of rice. interesting. not bad. but i still don't love curry.
