lola's ball [watching]

recent i netflixed "monster's ball" and "lola".

"monster's ball" was a much talked about movie when it came out in 2001. since then, do people give a shit? i don't know. i never saw it and that's why i netflixed it. i have so many movies in my queue that by the time i watch a movie, it's no longer relevant. i really don't see what the big deal was about this movie. i think it was just an excuse to see hallie's berries or something. seriously. not worth seeing.

i netflixed "lola" because i needed to finish the brd trilogy. what's that you say? well it's fassbinder's trilogy. who's that you say? rainer werner fassbinder. the other films in the trilogy are "the marriage of maria braun" and "veronika voss". i watched those back in the 90s, possibly one of them in the early 2000s, back when i was a film student. i honestly don't remember those films. i don't think i liked them. hard to compare if you haven't watched all 3 films of a trilogy in recent succession but i'd have to say that "lola" was the best of the bunch. it was fun to watch and i'm pretty sure i was bored with the other too. yet still, i wouldn't call these recommended viewing but it sure is hell is recommended over a lot of crap put out today that people gush over, (i.e., "monster's ball"). i know some people love fassbinder but it's just the wrong period for me as i've voiced before that 70s movies don't do it for me in general. ("lola" is from 1981 and is second in the trilogy.) i definitely need to see more of the director's films in order to form a more informed opinion of his filmmaking style.
