dark days [watching]
i netflixed the documentary "dark days". it's about the homeless, specifically an underground shanty town in new york city. it's been awhile since the documentary so this particular shanty town no longer exists. however, it's still a very moving and relevant documentary in my opinion. great insight into a people you might not normally talk with. who is homeless, how they came into their current situation and the struggle to overcome it, survival, being homeless and not helpless, etc. the film doesn't set out to answer these questions but you can't help but ponder them. the filmmakers simply wanted to document the situation because no one else seemed to be and there was a story to be told. the main person behind this film knew nothing of film prior. everything was learned as they went along. he even became homeless in the process. it was a joint effort, a community project and that itself is wonderful because it's empowering for those involved and the story being told then is from the people themselves. i highly recommend this film and the special features. rather than read about it, please watch it.
