bowers and pirates [watching]
a couple weeks ago i bought tickets to go to the bowers museum for the ancient egypt exhibit and treasures from shanghai. i forgot about this when i called a couple days ago to have cable internet installed today. i didn't think we'd be back in time so i called back to request installation later in the day. no more appointments available so it's postponed until next week. at least it gave us the chance to leisurely explore the museum and stores. they had their regular store plus one just for the egyptian exhibit. i used to really love ancient egypt as i kid. i even wanted to be an egyptologist. but you have to study other stuff in the anthropology/archaeology world first in order to specialize in egyptology so i said fuck you to that major and went on with my life. going through the exhbit and shop made me realize it's time to sell my books on egypt. *sniff* goodbye to an era!
then in the even we saw "pirates of the caribbean 3". i didn't like part 2 so i didn't expect much of part 3 but there was a big hoopla over keith richards playing johnny depp's dad so i thought that might be a cool twist to the pirate tale, to have papa pirate. wrong. this movie was really lame and the papa pirate role was so small and could've been left out. they didn't maximize the opportunity! it was a rinkydink role that really had no effect on plot, very disappointing. the disney folks really should've just left this whole make a movie out of a ride deal at 1 movie instead of 3.
