uniformed elves bartering with pastrami for dumb stuff [traveling]
we were supposed to go to carnaval in the mission (san francisco) today but we couldn't quite get our butts up on time. as we were getting ready, i flipped through the channels and saw the parade on tv. carnaval parade in the morning? what the fuck is up with that? so instead of that, we decided to just go to the place we had planned for the afternoon. there was traffic crossing the bay bridge which sucked but i imagine this is what life must be like for daily commuters. take bart dudes! we would have taken bart but twiddle thumbs has a foot injury so we're driving. went to golden gate park for the japanese garden. 3 out of 4 of us have never been there, including me. first though we need to eat something for lunch. we went to the cafe at the de young museum. we had ordered. i even found a table. just then, instead of our food being brought to us or our numbers called, the fire alarm went off. perfect! so there we all were, holding our numbers in the cold, looking pathetic.
there was much relief when we could finally go back in. no one seemed to lose an order, not much chaos. everyone sat down and waited for their food which slowly but surely reached every table. but i noticed we were one of the last ones served, hmph! finally, the garden! it was a day you had to pay to get in. that's ok. we're here. we walked around and it was a lot smaller than i thought it would be. maybe i'm spoiled. i tried to get some nice shots but somehow my camera wasn't cooperating or i had already forgotten how to use it. i couldn't get the kind of shots that i was able to get on the drive up just a few days ago. the kind where either subject is in focus but the rest is blurry. oh well.
when you're a music lover in san francisco, you cannot leave without browsing the stores on haight. i wasn't even thinking that i had to go but twiddle thumbs thought i was dying to go so she suggested we go there and everyone agreed. we browsed amoeba records and some shops. i couldn't leave amoeba without buying something 'cos i felt like we went down there for me so i bought 3 cds. i don't think i've ever left amoeba with such a small bag.
we went back to our friend's place to rest for a bit then had dinner at fellini's in berkeley. we got a vegan pizza there and they had more than one choice! we got the special which included potatoes as a topping. i never had that before on pizza so that was cool. it was delicious as well! twiddle thumbs was very impressed. the ingredients must have been high quality because it didn't make me feel funny afterwards. (i think the crust at a lot of places is made from poor ingredients that gives me trouble.) and then it was a night of scattergories, which is where the bulk of this entry's title comes from. ^_^
