lisa gerrard at the orpheum [listening]
tonight i went with the girls to see lisa gerrard. we were all excited to go because we like a lot of her solo stuff and soundtracks even though neither of us have heard the entire dead can dance discography. i was also excited to see the show at the orpheum because i've never been there before. i think all of us were more impressed with the venue than the performer. the venue was so beautiful. there are restrooms downstairs with a very nice and cozy lobby/waiting room/chill out area. the stage area itself was a beautiful old theater. there were drink holders for each seat. the only thing i would change is that the seat rows are too cramped. there needs to be more room inbetween. (zero leg room!) as for the performer, she seemed like a stuck up pompous ass! "you are the people of los angeles". what the fuck? no shit sherlock! that was one of the few things she said to the audience. she also had to do this weird ocd routine before every song where she would stand at an angle and hold out her arms towards the mic and repeat that over and over. her singing was flawless and there were only 2 musicians on stage with her but the setlist sucked. we didn't get to hear the songs we really love. perhaps just one. overall, the show was about 1 hour 30 minutes and there was an encore of 2 songs. we didn't think she would come out for another so we started to leave when she came out to sing just one more song. final thoughts: for this kind of music it's better to listen to the albums than go to live shows.
