lala trades review 7 [listening]

even though i haven't been trading that much lately with lala, i've managed to get enough albums to keep writing about it.

basement jaxx - "kish kash". i wanted to like this but it sucked. i only got it for the guest appearance siouxsie makes. that couldn't save the album nor the song. i'll give it one more spin but that's probably it.

bryan ferry - "boys and girls". i got this because a member of buck-tick likes it. not sure if i like it but don't think i hate it. it's just not exactly my thing. i must listen to this again at the right time.

ute lemper - "crimes of the heart". i got this because a member of buck-tick likes it. i knew about ute lemper before. a friend recommended since she sings dietrich songs, etc. however, i did not like this at all. i don't like her voice. no one can touch dietrich. no one.

sick of it all - "blood, sweat and no tears". i got this one because max cavalera (sepultura founder) liked sick of it all and discharge and that kind of stuff back in the day. i still haven't picked up a discharge album yet but i finally got this sick of it all album. hmm, hardcore? not yet sure how i feel about it. i'm more into the first wave of punk. still don't really know the music of or how i feel about hardcore.

dead can dance - "dead can dance". the more i listen to dead can dance, the more i like it. years ago, maybe 10 or more, i got one of their albums on cassette then another on cd. i didn't really care much for eithe. maybe i got the weakest ones. maybe it was the wrong time in my life to listen to them. maybe it's for people over 30. point is, i like it now and want to hear more.

the ukranians - "the ukranians". i really loved their covers of the smiths but 4 songs were not enough so i wanted to hear their original albums. it's ok. i love the smiths songs more but that's because i love the originals and the covers were an interesting musical translation of them. this album also sounds a bit flat. i mean that the mastering of it sounds old and not as bright as it could be. perhaps the album after this has songs a bit more fun and a crisper recording.
