dinner for algiers [watching]

i netflixed "dinner for five" (season 1 disc 1) because a couple different friends like the show but i had never seen it. one recommended a particular episode. so here i am years later and i finally watch it. the show is eh... you'd really have to love movies and the movies the guests made in particular, which is not me. i like movies but do not love them to the point to watch every fucking thing out there. i have especially not seen enough to know the careers of the guests of the show, nor the host! there were a couple interested movie trivia or funny bits but otherwise i'd say the show is completely boring and not worth it, especially if you don't give a shit about these people.

"the battle of algiers" is just a title that resonates with me. i know this title somehow. it's famous. but what do i know of the film? nothing. so it was time to watch it. the descriptions say that it's about the (terrorist) movents that led up to algeria's independence, shot documentary or more street style, so you feel like you're there. yes, that's what it is. it's a really interesting film that puts you on the side of the people of algiers and not their french colonists though it doesn't really give you much background info. you see the rebel faction trying to send a message to get rid of the french by any means necessary. especially interesting were the scenes when the algerian women removed their muslim garb and dressed like the french do in order to get into the european quarter and plant bombs in places that show young, carefree french. you can feel the tension and nervousness of those women. i think current events warrant a viewing of this film.
