ye olde santa fe dam [living]

get your joust on!

we went to the renaissance pleasure faire today with alpha tom. it's now held at the santa fe dam in irwindale which is weird for me but that's where twiddle thumbs saw lollapalooza in '93, or as i like to say, the crappy year. hahahahaha. anyway, alpha tom was a bit shocked at this aspect of american culture, of people really getting into reliving old england. for me it's like, ah, this is just old stuff. i used to go to these things in high school but twiddle thumbs has never been. this is so not me anymore. i don't think i need to come for a long, long while. what was good about today was that it was not hot at all. in fact, it was almost a really bleak and sad sort of day. first off, it was overcast. second, the view from parking lot and general sense of being at a dam was not uplifiting for the spirits.

aztec dancers at the ren fair?

i never was into it like the people who get all dressed up but i used to have fun and would sometimes dress as a gypsy. that was more me making multiple use of a halloween costume than anything else i think. the fair was a decent size but i didn't like the one way street setup. the way it was organized forced you to walk by every shop if you wanted to get over to the tournament area. the joust is pretty much the only thing i took a picture of. for some bizarre reason unknown to me, there were also aztec dancers. i saw one attendee come dressed up in a kimono but she looked japanese. i don't know why the hell you'd wear a kimono to the ren fair. maybe she was making use of something she never gets to wear. or her white boyfriend forced her to play it exotic.
