why we fight the dreamers [watching]

more recent netflixes...

"why we fight". this was a documentary that raises a very vital question for a country that has ever engaged in war. the question isn't why are we involved in a particular conflict, but why do we fight in general? since this is an american film, it naturally focuses on america. but i think the question is a good one to ask of any human being. now, some of the people in the film had some really thought-provoking points. i think it's important to watch the whole film so you can understand how each person's beliefs were shaped. and then ask yourself the question, "why do i fight?" no matter what it may be about. why do you feel the need to fight? what will it accomplish? now, why must an entire country fight? tough stuff.

"the dreamers". this is a recent bernardo bertolucci film and since i haven't seen much of his stuff, i probably put it on my netflix list. or perhaps later i saw it on a list of nc-17 films and i wanted to see those. who knows. all i know is that this was a good film for cinephiles. if you don't love the movies referenced in the film, if you yourself have never been a film buff like the characters in the film, then you will not get the film. i think you will only see the nc-17 aspects of it. i think you will stare at genitalia. that's not what the film was for me. for me it was about being young and loving films. even more so, it's like a passionate love for films that italians have, especially about french films. but that can't be helped because that is bertolucci. i liked michael pitt in "hedwig and the angry inch" and in this film as well. i think both roles suited him.
