opcs: beat [screaming]

today's okinawa in pop culture series movie for yosc was "beat". (i totally skipped writing about "teahouse of the august moon" last month but that's ok). i saw the movie after i bought it 3 years ago but haven't seen it since. it was better than i remember. but to talk about the series and my volunteering is where i will focus on today. i almost didn't show the movie! i got there and there was a koto class about to start. i was like, excuse me but young okinawans have this room reserved today at 2pm. i went upstairs to the office to check the calendar and there we were, nothing else listed. eventually the teacher told them they were in the wrong room but they wouldn't budge otherwise. when it became 2pm, i decided to start the movie even though no one else was there. i thought that by 2:30pm, if no one showed up, i'd go home. i started eating my lunch and thought how terrible it would be if no one showed and i kinda kicked that koto class out. they were in the wrong room anyway. someone did show up about 10 minutes later so i restarted the movie.

afterwards we discussed how frustrating it is that no one comes or responds to email inquiries such as this organization is here for you, what events do you want? 'cos i'll help organize and lead if we're lacking someone to do it. i'm open to any event anywhere, i just want feedback so i don't plan something that no one cares about and no one shows up. but there's dead silence. so it's frustrating. i don't want to put forth the time and effort to plan events if no one shows. watching a movie is easy. i want to do more. i wanted this to be a stepping stone to do more. but no one has really come forward to the movies or via email to say what they want. i would organize a trip to such and such. i would organize an event at the kenjinkai. etc. but who cares? who would come? again, i don't even know young okinawans. i asked me my mom to tell her friends so they can tell their kids. the only response i got was from one who said they're too old for the "young okinawans". argh.
