more vegan food for non-vegan people [ingesting]

tonight we had a little dinner party for twiddle thumbs's brother and his wife. it was a freak out day! we cannot host things on weeknights, especially when we don't have time to prepare for it ahead of time. both of us rushed in a panic after work to the supermarket to buy the missing ingredients for the recipes we had selected. i had the misfortune of not finding everything at the first place, freaking out on the phone to twiddle thumbs to update my ingredients situation, and then picked another supermarket that happened to be going out of business and had little on the shelves! i went to a third and final supermarket. we started making dinner and the further we were in cooking everything, the better we felt about it. turns out the ants had gotten into a bag of chips we were going to use so we asked our guests to pick some up on the way. this helped give us more time to prepare dinner. overall it went well. they enjoyed it or at least pretended to enjoy it. they even took some leftovers home. i don't think they grasped that we're vegan and if we're eating it, everything we're serving must be vegan.

we served:
salad (big whoop)
tomato tortilla soup with hominy (twiddle thumbs's yummy concoction)
non-alcoholic ciders (from ikea we happened to buy the other day)
lentil-tomato loaf (new recipe, i altered it a bit)
corn bread (old favorite)
corn ('cos americans love corn)
chocolate cake (cupcake recipe but made a full cake instead of cupcakes)
