the water heater incident [living]

when i got home from work on wednesday, the water heater was leaking. i noticed a trail of water in the garage and followed it to the water heater. it wasn't too bad. none of my stuff stored in the garage was wet. i called the landlord and he was going to send out a plummer the next day to look into it. the plummer for when i got home from work. that morning, yesterday, when i opened the door to the garage, i was overwhelmed by the smell of gas. this is not good. i was afraid to even hit the garage door opener button for fear of triggering a spark that would explode me off the face of the earth. i pressed the button. everythin was fine. i walked over to check out what's going on with the water heater. instead of just leaking, it was now steaming. perhaps 'cos i just took a shower? can i really leave it like this and go to work? i have to. fuck it, i went to work.

well, when i got home from work i rushed and waited patiently for the plummer. he was very, very late. twiddle thumbs got back from tijuana and then some. we were waiting for the plummer forever. he finally arrived after 10pm and was working on it for a long time. twiddle thumbs went to bed. i stayed up and kept an eye on the plummer. he said it's too late to get a new water heater so he'll have to do it tomorrow. he shut off the existing one and well, now we have no hot water. it sucked. anyway, today he came by really late again and installed a new water heater. we have hot water again, thank god. we have a guest this weekend and must be able to take showers! what a relief.

this shows me how spoiled i am. at least i had water. i remember days of no water in okinawa. i remember having to go outside to turn on the gas to the apartment before taking a shower otherwise we only used cold water for everything. if i was somewhere else, i would've taken a cold shower. but i'm at home and expect comfort. today i opted for no shower rather than cold shower. if the plummer didn't put in a new one and we had to wait even more, then i would've showered at someone's house than having a cold shower. or ran around doing lots of exercise in order to take a cold shower. so fucking spoiled.
