early start of dst [thinking]

today is the early start of daylight savings time and i must say this is gonna fuck me over. just when i get used to my sleeping pattern, even 1 hour difference will affect it. this next week at work will be bad, i know it already. the thing i never understood about daylight savings time is why it exists in the first place. i thought it was for when america was largely a farmer's country and we needed more daylight to work on the crops, plus before electricity to save money on candles. well, that's just dumb because we're not controlling how many hours of sunshine in a day, just when we are awake. you could get up earlier! second, what about the poor candlemakers, huh? they'd lose some business and have to take up another trade. not fair to them.

now that we have electricity and most of us don't farm, do we need to keep doing this? plus, do we need to do it so early in march? i think it just makes america look more like a freak country.
