burst city and alexander nevsky [watching]
netflixed "burst city" and "alexander nevsky." "burst city" is the english title for the 1982 japanese punk rock film "bakuretsu toshi" (perhaps another translation could be "explosive borough"). i wanted to see it for the music. it turned out to be really, really lame. i can't even talk about it. avoid it. if you're interested, just find the soundtrack instead. i wish i had.
"alexander nevsky" is sergei eisenstein film i've had at the house and put off watching for a long time because i didn't feel like watching another silent movie. i had forgetten that this was a talkie. it came out in 1938, long after silent cinema died. as always, the camerawork is good and the image impressive but the subtitles were the worst i've seen yet for knowing the original language. it was like watching a battle epic with a cast of yodas. if this review was subtitled like the film, it would be something like: film good for country. man of heart must go fight for land.
