in search of a better life [thinking]
why are americans shocked when americans move away? i just feel like they are. that's my hypotehsis. whenever americans talk about moving to another country and stuff, it seems like you can hear a gasp, like it's an insult to think about leaving, like this is the best so why would one leave? i think it's funny because americans are immigrants themselves, or the descendants of. (in another country, even after a couple of generations, one may still be treated like an immigrant instead of one who has assimilated.) it means that in our blood we are seeking a better life. perhaps we have not found it yet. perhaps we need to keep moving around. that's why i just think it's funny that some americans can stay in their town their whole life without ever being curious as to life elsewhere. not just outside of the country but outside of their town or state. i can understand that in other countries, but not countries like america where the primary population is historically due to immigration. maybe some people just like what they know whereas others have a wandering spirit. maybe the wanderer or the rebel (let's face it, this country was formed by outcasts and rebels) is a recessive quality and that is why to leave causes such a fuss.
