the devil on the river kwai [watching]
recent netflixes include the classic film "bridge on the river kwai" and a more recent comedy "the devil wears prada". i really didn't know much about either film. i wanted to see the classic film because eventually i want to see all the classics to find out for myself why they are deemed such. well, this film was boring and i can't imagine ever watching it again, sorry. the climax is the last few minutes of the movie and it didn't feel like it was worth it by the time i reached the end.
"the devil wears prada" seemed funny in the trailers so i wanted to see it when it came out but i missed my chance in the theaters as i don't go to the movies much. it was a cute, funny film that's safe enough to watch with various generations. put it this way, you could sit next to your mother and not get uncomfortable due to adult content because there isn't any. the film is about fashion which is so not me, and particularly the kind of crap that's going on in the film. but it is still funny enough and not so serious that the book it's based on might be worth a chuckle or two read. one thing to note: in the beginning the fashion people make fun of the main character for wearing clogs to work. though i hate to admit it, very recently i have begun wearing clogs to work. i would never ever wear such hideous things but i needed new shoes for work badly and they were the right price at the right time with a decent fit and look. i don't look like a little dutch girl or some early 90s victim. (is that when they were popular?) not that the film influenced me, but said shoe purchase was supposed to be a temporary item as i continue to search for what will be my next pair of main work shoes, though i haven't really been searching since the purchase. perhaps it's time to go back to wearing boots. afterall, boots are best for ass-kicking and where else does one do more ass-kicking than work?
