new year's eve eve [living]

yesterday alpha tom came over. he wanted to go to a club or the sunset strip, something exciting, something LA. nopalita wanted to see a movie that happens to be playing on the strip. we could go have a vegan dinner, watch a movie, go to a club. well, we didn't have time for all that. we went to pick up nopalita and then after having dinner at california vegan, we went to the roxy for a local bands night thing. there were 4 bands and we didn't know a thing about any of them. since they were local bands, everyone there were friends of the band. while we were waiting in line, this aussie started talking to our contingent and kinda befriended us. he just flew in and headed to the strip to look for something cool too.

electric uh oh - not bad. a lot better than a lot of opening bands i have to sit through. the music could be better. the singer stood out but he looks like an idiot. it's one of those emo things i think. i still don't get what the fuck is emo. i see the looks and i hear the sounds and i can't connect the dots. it's all garbage. i think it just frustrates me becauses years ago i read a review of an underground group i like and the reviewer called them emo. that was the first time i heard the term. that group sounds nothing like emo of today. is it just another misused label? or is it a genre on its second or third wave? whatfuckinever.

scarlet gray - they started out with a jam and it sounded good. i was excited, yea, a good jam band! then the vocalist starting singing and it all turned sour. i say, they should get a new guy to just sing and have the rest of them focus on greating more awesome jams. let someone else bother with vocal melodies.

happy casualties - damn they sucked. just god awful. alpha tom liked them because he thought they were a breath of fresh air. they weren't doing the emo thing or full on power chord thing. yeah well they still sucked.

the man - 2 girls singing. 3 guitars. very short songs. it was ok but the rest of the crew i came with were bored so we left early.

we took the aussie back to his hostel in venice. totally out of the way but you gotta put tips in the good karma jar sometimes. it sucks to be new in a foreign city and have no ride. i thank those who gave us similar kindness when we were in new zealand. then we dropped off nopalita and headed home. when we got home, we were surprised to see that we had left the garage door open. a cat was sitting by the door to enter the house. we laughed and called it our guardian. that cat has tried to come in the house before. at the same time we were horrified that we left our place so vulnerable and were scrambling to get in the house to see what it had been stolen. much to our relief, everything was still there. that is amazing because we had all of our stuff exposed plus alpha tom brought over his guitar and amp. plus my mom just gave me some cash for christmas and i left it out in the open too along with my precious laptop. i don't need to learn this lesson twice. never again. the garage door will always be closed when we leave. thank goodness our place is towards the end of the street and positioned the way it is. otherwise, everyone passing by would have seen it open like that and we really would have lost everything. i had a friend who was home and the garage was open and people stole crap.
