the end of 2 years of being homeless [living]
we moved today! so tired. ok, perhaps i was never homeless because i always had a roof over my head and all mod cons (modern conveniences, i picked up this phrase in new zealand), but it's been 2 years since i had my own place in america. i can't believe my shit has been in storage for that long. alpha tom spent the night again and it was great that he helped out, especially because he drove a mini van which can hold a lot more than my car. (i miss driving a mini van just for that fact that you can throw almost anything in there. no worrying when you shop about how in the hell are you gonna get that thing home.) twiddle thumbs's sister and husband also got up early and brought their truck to help us out. without these 2 men and vehicles, we would not have accomplished all that we did in such a short amount of time. thank you again!
we met up at the storage facility and cleared that baby out! even though everyone's eyes bugged out of their head once they saw all our crap ("i can't believe 2 girls have this much stuff"), it only took 3 trips. the office was open and i was able to close my account. no more storage facility! we took everything to our new place and no, the garage is not full--we have room to park both of our cars. of course, we still have stuff at my mom's house and a couple things at twiddle thumbs's parents' house, but that shouldn't take that long to move. the crap thing is that our washer/dryer will not at our new place because the electrical outlet is the wrong size. looks like we'll have to sell it and buy another one. perhaps it's time to stop being a wasteful american and stop using a dryer. we ended the day by taking everyone who helped to a late lunch. then we parted ways.
the old and new compared:

santa cruz living room, move out day

LA living room, move in day

santa cruz bedroom, move out day

LA bedroom, move in day
conclusion: my new bedroom is bigger but i miss our old living room.
