leaving the beach whiter than when i came [working]
today was a company beach party. i had to drive by myself to oceanside for this. no one ever mentioned carpooling. oh well. better for me that i can blast my music during the drive. man, i am so not a beach in the daylight person! there's just nothing that i find fun about it. the view is not great, hazy. the water is too cold and the sand too dirty with lazy people's trash (dangerous stuff too). the activities one usually partakes in just lead to skin cancer and sand in places you don't want it. the activities they provided equipment for (football and volleyball) are things i'm just not interested in. i was thinking someone was going to bring an acoustic guitar and that would keep me occupied fora few minutes but no one did. instead, several people brought their dogs and a few brought partners/kids. even though it's a company party on the beach, i just didn't think the dogs were appropriate, especially since they seemed to only be ornaments. some of them tried to attack each other. there was a raffle but i chose not to participate in that. i mean, i don't really need any of the prizes nor have a use for them. just give me cold hard cash. ^_^
so i sat there in the shade until my butt went numb, miss anti-social. a couple people talked to me. i find it so funny how people always have to go out of their way to walk up to me just to tell me how quiet i am. well, if my quietness bothers you, engage me in coversation instead of just a passing remark and you'll see how un-quiet i can be. the bottom line is i'm not really one for forced social situations. i like 1-on-1s and definitely not outside in the daylight. i was starting to feel ill from the sun exposure and the cold wind made my nose run. this caused me to focus my thoughts on "when can i sneak out of here?". i had to stay a long enough time for good measure. i stayed about 3 hours. i didn't leave until i saw others leave but i was still one of the first to leave. at least all the important people saw me there, that's what counts, that i showed up, and in appropriate attire (capri type pants/sandals) not jeans/tennis shoes like some.
