the emptiness of earthborn pride [listening]

emperor! we just came back from seeing emperor. i can't believe it. i've finally seen a black metal band from norway play. it's been years since i was into that stuff that i don't really even know the songs anymore but i'm so glad i went. they played my top favorite songs! some people in attendance looking funny in their poorly done corpse paint. again, i just feel like those days are over. but being at the show made me want to put on a burzum shirt and visit fantoft. i don't know what the hell the guy in the pale saints shirt was doing there. i hope that's not your heaviest shirt! i like the pale saints too but come on, put on a different shirt. it was funny too to see all the people there in emperor shirts. so you're here in an emperor shirt to prove how big of an emperor fan you are? sorry but all my shit's in storage. i couldn't bring down my picture disc box set for the band to sign or just show off and be snobby.

a band from louisiana called goatwhore opened up. they're still in that satanic mode. it's really laughable. the first half of their set sounded the same. each song had a built up intro with the singer grrrrrarling at the beginning. there's got to be more ways to start off a black metal song. work on it. otherwise, they were good. as for emperor, well ishahn's little norwegian accent was indescribably cute. that's right, black metal is cute. he was a gentlemen and thanked the audience for coming out. they were humble. even though samoth couldn't make it to america due to visa issues, it was a good show.

i got chills just when ihsahn was speaking when he was introducing "thus spake the nightspirit". then when it was playing, damn, the goosebumps! i would turn to twiddle thumbs during my favorite songs and yell, "this is one of my favorites!" i hardly have anything left in my bank account and not enough cash on me, so it was a hard decision for me to make to go to the atm and get charged up the ass in order to get cash to buy a t-shirt but it isn't every year that emperor plays in america so i just had to do it. they did do an encore, a short one though. ihsahn came out in his little spiked shoulders getup that i've seen before. i knew it'd be a good song once i saw that. again, i'm not strong on titles and i don't have all the albums memorized so i think this was the setlist.

setlist:
into the infinity of thoughts
thus spake the nightspirit
an elegy of icaros
curse you all men!
with strength i burn
the majesty of the night sky
the loss and curse of reverence
in the wordless chamber
inno a satana
[band exits stage]
opus a satana (tape)

encore:
i am the black wizards
ye entrancemperium
