starving at the queen mary [ingesting]
today was not a good day food wise. damn those kangen water get-togethers! there was a big one at the queen mary in long beach that my mom invited me and twiddle thumbs to go to. my mom said they would serve lunch. well, what kind of lunch? something edible for vegans? she said we'd be fine because it would be a buffet. hmm, sounds like another fill up on salad or fruit event. ok, fine, we'll go. we woke up too late to eat breakfast. my mom had to pick up her friend on the way so we had to leave even earlier than i thought we should. i think my mom said it begins at 11am and the lunch is at 3pm so we have to leave the house at 9am. um, isn't the queen mary like right there? i don't think traffic has gotten that bad, we only need 30 minutes to get there. are you trying to sit in the front row or something? are you a kangen water groupie?!
we get there early, naturally, and try to make our way through the sea of elderly asians. there were a few white people, a few brown people, but otherwise it was an entirely yellow event. elderly too. so twiddle thumbs and i stuck out. we were starving. i brought a tiny snack with me but it didn't help at all. my mom made some riceballs. she said they were safe for vegans. twiddle thumbs swore she tasted fish. it was probably the smell of the seaweed but it made me scrutinize the ingredients until i just didn't know what was what anymore. fuck it, i'm starving! i ate that sucker. but only 1. then we had to sit through a speech by the kangen water president. i've heard it before. ay. i was faster than the translator most of the time until i became too annoying and had to shut up. after that was over, there was 1 hour until lunch at 2pm. at least we don't have to wait until 3pm!!!
i wanted to go to the russian submarine store. right now, there is a russian submarine on display next to the queen mary. hey, if you like ships, this must be a good time to visit. i didn't feel like paying to see a submarine and twiddle thumbs couldn't walk around it anyway today (blisters), but damn it i want to see the shop and get some russian shit!!! i looked around and nothing really called out to me. i enjoyed trying on the hats. one of them, a 1920s red army hat, i thought looked dumb (or not really russian enough, more mongolian) when i first entered the store. after looking at everything, it started calling to me. i tried it on for fun. i fell in love. it's me, it's totally me. this is my bass hat! i will wear this when i play bass. after that, we walked around the queen mary for just a little bit to see if there were any photo opportunities that called me. we couldn't walk around much due to the tender feet of miss v.
next, the lunch disaster. the buffet was nothing but meat and dairy! the "salad" was a giant bowl of olives with cubes of salami and cheese. oy vey! this is not kosher! it just won't do. there was some unidentified casserole type thing covered in cheese. there was lasagna smothered in cheese. there was broccoli in cheese sauce. there was garlic toast made with butter. there was tiramisu. at least, there were some bread rolls. i ate 1 and suffered in my misery of the oncoming headaches of hunger. somehow, i just have to get through this. i started to think of all the places close to the house that i could run to to get immediate vegan friendly food, and good food at that, because i deserve it after this. while i was pondering, my mom asked the buffet servers about food without meat and cheese. i heard one of them say, "is steamed vegetables ok?". i thought for sure they'd bring it to us with butter if they brought us anything at all. eventually we were served a bland (weird) pasta dish with i think steamed vegetables (huge slices). taking away meat and cheese obviously left the chef perplexed. thank you for trying though. i ate a lot more than i normally would have (not that great of a taste) because i was so hungry. it's really weird that everyone there is into healthy things, which is why they are involved with kangen water, but the food served was so unhealthy. my mom made a little comment to her friends in japanese that summarized this sentiment: "it doesn't matter how much good water you drink if you eat this kind of unhealthy food."
