rockstar at the roxy [listening]
i didn't have to go into work early today because the damn construction is finally done but i went in a little early so i could leave a little early in order to rush out to hollywood to catch the panic channel at the roxy theatre. it's a thing for that tv show "rockstar". you had to go to the website and answer dumb questions about the show (google is wonderful) and then enter the code it gives to rsvp. then you go down to the damn place and hope you get in. first come, first serve deal. however, they let everyone in, even though it took them fuck ass forever to do so. by the time they let us in, they weren't checking to see if we brought the print at home tickets.
the panic channel played because dave navarro hosted the show last year and this year. 2 contestants from last year opened up for them. the remaining contestants on the current show were present in the audience as well as tommy lee who is in the group supernova and the 'prize' as it were of the current season of "rockstar". the first guy who opened up was mig ayesa. he did all covers and pretty much sucked. all these old, ugly, fat, wrinkled, wouldn't touch 'em with a 100 foot pole types were up in front and going crazy for him. they got really wild for the next contestant from last year though. it was the finalist, marty casey who performed with his band the lovehammers and goddamn, that boy has no ass so he can't keep his pants up. the ladies loved it and would molest him. the songs he did were ok enough that we bought the cd. i heard a bit of it and the band sounds much better in the studio than live so you know what that means.
the panic channel went on and it started off bad and just got worse, for dave at least. the roadie/guitar tech for the night kept fucking up and pissing dave off. it started when the roadie was moving the guitar amp heads on stage and they fell over just when the band was coming on stage to play. boom! the shit went down! picks flew and we were right there so we nabbed a few as souvenirs but we helped to clean up the rest. some sunglasses fell down too and we signed to dave if they were his and they weren't so they must've been marty's. anyway, when the amp heads went down, the nobs got all messed up and weren't at dave's favorite settings anymore. there was a panic to get them to the right channels! hahahahahaa
during the show, the roadie just wasn't doing his guitar tech duties properly. dave has 3 guitars. i could see them right there. each is distinctly marked. the setlist is marked too. different songs in different tunings. one guitar is probably standard tuning, another in dropped d perhaps, and the last was marked for 1 particular song only. anyone who has tuned a guitar could do this. just make sure they are in tune and pass them to the guitarist when the appropriate guitar is needed. well, that's not how it went. dave was getting pissed. then there was no more sound coming out of the amp. that's when the shit went down. we could hear dave yelling at the guy and we've seen musicians get mad when gear isn't working or if there are venue issues but we've never seen anyone so fucking mad before.
dave became too disgusted with the gear not working properly and the roadie not doing his job accordingly so he walked up to steve and at this point i knew the show was over but it was still gut wrenching when steve said the band was done for the night. it was their last song they were about to go into (night one) but they ended up not doing it. to the audience of course, dave was nice when he talked into the mic to say a couple words about cutting it short. they quickly decided to do an acoustic version of "outsider" instead. they took a 5 minute break so the stage could get ready for it (bongos, chairs, etc.). the band comes out and everything is ready except for dave's gear. he goes to the roadie pissed off and the guy was actually going to hand him a fucking electric guitar. next, dave's pissed because there is no chair for him to sit on and with that particular acoustic he was using, he needed a damn chair. the roadie went off to get one and someone else brought one out for dave. the song was almost over when the roadie came back with a chair. didn't he notice that the song had been going on for awhile? didn't he glance at the stage as he was coming back and see dave already on a chair? that's the kind of fucking night it was. the songs went by so fast we were sad to see it end. after that last mind blowing performance by the panic channel that we saw, this was so disappointing because the set was so short. after the curtain came down, there was a stack of setlists the roadie never put on stage so i took those too. hey, they don't need them anymore.
i tried to take pictures without flash since they came out so great last time at the roxy but tonight the lights were as bright so i had to use flash a few times. in the middle of the show i noticed something odd: the auto-lens cover was up, or closed. however you want to put it. that is odd because i broke it a year and a half ago when i dropped the camera in new zealand. the mechanism broke so i was concerned that the lens might get scratched but everything else was not damaged. during the show, the mechanism began functioning normally. i turned it on and off several times just to watch it work! i was so amazed, i made twiddle thumbs watch and she didn't get why i was so excited because she forgot that i had broken it. the panic channel's music is indeed miraculous! it healed my camera! that was my night folks and i have to get up a little bit early tomorrow morning to leave a little bit early again so that i can get a jump start on the weekend.
