i don't get why tarantino is popular [watching]

tonight i finally watched for the first time "reservoir dogs". earlier this week i saw "jackie brown". i have now seen all of quentin tarantino's major works and i still don't get why the guy is popular. i set out to watch all these films to figure it out and i just don't know. i don't think his stories are that great. a lot of people love his dialogue but i think he does a much better job at directing when he is not writing the material. i just think this guy is rehashing the old into something the kids can dig. he did that with blaxploitation and "jackie brown". he did that with asian martial arts films and "kill bill". these are the films by him that i actually like. i hated "true romance". "natural born killers" was just one of those hyped up back in the day films that you had to see. the same really for "pulp fiction". i didn't care much for "pulp fiction"--i really just watched it to see the uc santa cruz shirt everyone on campus was talking about (i was going to ucsc at the time). i noticed that he references santa cruz in "reservoir dogs" as well. i guess santa cruz is funny to him, like like the west coast is to east coasters, like the south is to the rest of america.
