panic at the roxy [listening]
we just came back from seeing the panic channel at the roxy theatre in hollywood. this was their final date of their mini tour around the country to introduce people to the songs that will be on the album. we picked up a friend of twiddle thumbs's from work and his friend. on the ride to the venue we learned that her friend is also vegan. small world. we must've got there early for LA standards because even though we got there after the doors opened there wasn't very many people there. the opening band was the penfifteen club and they sucked but weren't completely terrible. you could at least get through it.
we got a nice spot up in front on dave's side or at least i did because as the show went on, i was able to fit inbetween two people so that no one was obscuring my view of the stage. i brought my cheap digital camera as always and even though there were no camera restrictions, i wanted to become more familiar with concert photography and that means not using flash. my camera is ill-equipped to handle such low light conditions because the shutter is not fast enough. i took maybe 360 shots and had to delete a third of them due to blurring and lack of focus. a couple of times i didn't want to miss a shot so i used flash. then there was 1 or 2 shots where i had forgotten to turn off the flash. other than that, by not using flash i really felt like a pro up in the front. in one of the concert photography groups i joined in flickr, there was discussion once about getting all the band members on stage in one shot. tough task indeed! nevertheless, it excited me and that was my challenge for the evening. what was great about not using flash was that the battery lasted the entire night. it never went low. usually if i take flash photos at a concert, the battery doesn't last very long.

the panic channel, all of them
after the show there was an after party upstairs and being the smart girl that i am, i figured out a way to get all of us up there. the band went in and out of that party but it was still fun. we couldn't stay long or else we'd never get to work the next morning. plus, it doesn't matter that these things have free food and drink when you can't or won't consume them.
