hold me down but you won't hold me back [listening]
last night we went to see the panic channel play at the dragonfly. goddamn, that was such a good show. seriously the best show i've been to in a long time. the night was magical--you could feel it, almost taste it. i felt sorry for anyone not there. i wished it had been recorded and released on dvd. i was upset i didn't bring my mini disc recorder but was happy enough that the album will be released in august and i will have a copy of the songs then. i thought all these things while still enjoying the concert. after the band finished, i talked with twiddle thumbs and she was pretty much on the same wavelength and thought the same thoughts. seriously, that's how fucking good it was. we went with 2 other friends we met at ucsc to the show so it was nice to have a bunch of friends around me that i have known for so long. i went to bed so late but the sun had not yet come out yet, which is why this entry is a 2 in 1 special.
the show was a "spread radio presents" deal and bands that have been featured on the spread radio site opened up: khz and killola. both bands are all guys except for the singer. both bands were good but here are the differences: khz's songs sound pretty much the same while killola has a little more variety to it. khz's guitar sound was crunchier while killola's drums were more powerful. i couldn't hear the fucking vocals for khz so i can't comment on the singing. if i could hear it, i might've liked them more. killola's singer plays off the little girl type sometimes. i don't know if i'm into that. it really depends on the song i suppose.
the panic channel rocked the house like i've never seen them do before. to be honest, when we saw them a week ago, i wasn't that into it. i was more into taking photos. last night, man, FUCK ME! so good. goddamn. i think the problem 1 week ago was that they were doing the last date of a 3 week tour. they were tired and had road burn out. last night they still had the brotherhood from the tour but were refreshed and came back with full-on nuclear assault energy. the stage lights at the dragonfly aren't as intense at the roxy so i had to use my flash constantly and was bummed about that but hey, i have a cheapass camera and everyone else was using flash so fuck it! the show was so incredible that the band did their first encore ever. steve the singer doesn't believe in encores and always says that at the end of a show so you can well imagine how great the show was last night. seriously, if you like this band and this kind of music, i'm sorry that you weren't there.

the panic channel was on fire
towards the end of the show, i was staring at the stephen the drummer and sending thoughts to throw a drumstick into the audience. sure enough, that's what he did. next, i concentrated my thoughts to have him throw a drumstick to me. he did. i willed it to me. it was the most movie magic moment possible. it went straight towards my hand and i caught it left-handed without it bouncing for fouling it up in anyway. i immediately stuffed it down my boot. there's no way i'm losing that--he's one of my drum idols! he then threw 2 more sticks but not my way. i think some girl got 2 sticks. that's fine. i was content with 1.

after the show, right outside the venue was nikki sixx. since twiddle thumbs used to be a huge motley crue fan back in the day, i made her take a picture with him. then we went to our respective homes and i stayed up to about 4:30am. i got up to do the usual start of the day routine then dropped twiddle thumbs off at her parents' house. i then picked up nopalita for lunch and we went to east LA to check out her summer job: roosevelt high school. very interesting! it's a huge school, over 5000 students plus they also have facilities for daycare and adult school. it's an older school so to walk around the grounds was a different than other high schools i have been to. they have a fountain, japanese garden, and a gazebo. the walls that enclose the campus are also painted in murals to empower the local mexican-american community with knowledge about their heritage.
