dirty pretty sleepers [watching]

watched a couple movies: "sleepers" and "dirty pretty things". maybe something's wrong with my ears but all day watching the tv in the room i have had trouble with the audio. whether it was cable tv or "sleepers", i just couldn't hear the dialogue clearly. after not being clear on a couple plot points, it was time to turn on the captions. maybe i just don't understand the street accent of new york? i have no idea what it was. maybe my head was cloudy. anyway, it prevented me from really getting engrossed in the film. i also felt like there was a major plot hole but i just can't think of what it is. something about the film's narrative presumes too much. anyway, it's 4 childhood friends and one incident forever binds them. what a crap summary. let me expand. a childhood escapade, a prank if you will, boys being boys, results in the accidental death of an adult. the boys serve time in a juvenile detention facility and if you know about prisons then you know what goes on in the facilities for minors is pretty much the same. years later as adults, two of the boys run into a former guard. long story short, they kill them. the other two boys do their best to create and execute a plan to have their friends go to trial and walk out scott free.

i watched "dirty pretty things" in the living room. you know what? it's a bunch of immigrants in london. i had to turn on the captions. i couldn't understand what the characters' names were, sorry. maybe if i went to school with more nigerians and turks i would know but i went to school with mexicans, chinese, japanese, etc. these ears just aren't used to certain things. it's funny how once you turn on captions you suddenly 'hear' everything clearly. at first the movie was just regular ho-hum whatever but it made it turn where it's like, 'oh, yeah, this is good!'. i cannot give away where that point was in the film. in fact, i cannot give away anything about the film. the basic review of the film that i read is all that i can really pass on. i do not want to spoil it for anyone. someone works at a hotel and discovers something that appears to be the evidence of murder or illegal activity. this person is an illegal immigrant, therefore he cannot go to the police. and so the plot thickens!
