april fool's saturday [listening]
today is april fool's day and i'm not into that at all so it's a good thing that no one tried to do some lame april fool's joke thing. puh-leaze! what i've been listening to though lately might be considered a joke. yeah, that's my lame segue. i've been listening to bands that strikingly sound like previous bands. in fact, when you hear them, you might be surprised that it's not who you think it is. i learned of both of these bands from the same person so maybe they're not into originals. anyway, i did make them a cd to learn about the bands they sound like. so here it goes! the bands are muse and she wants revenge. i get so sick of the music i own, no matter how much i love it, that i'm always craving something new. muse and she wants revenge have been that fix of late.
muse sounds like radiohead, only better because radiohead has sucked for years. how's that? *ouch* i know many are hurting but i only like radiohead's first two albums. they lost a bit of the guitar driven sound and went experimental. that's cool and at the time i liked it but that music hasn't stood up over time for me. in fact, i even sold "ok computer" a couple years back. i wasn't into "kid a" and i think i heard "amnesiac" but then i just gave up on them. just doesn't do it for me, ya know? the first two albums do still so i'll just hold onto those good radiohead thoughts. muse sounds like radiohead if they kept the guitar driven sound and never went experimental. overall their songs sound the same to me but they have a couple songs that are really fucking good.
she wants revenge sound as if ian curtis never killed himself and joy division continued on without ever becoming new order, if that makes sense. what i mean is that musically, except for a few flaws, they sound like a modern version of late joy division - early new order. nothing really exceptional, just good overall that i could play the album over and over again and only skip 1-2 tracks. they've got one of those monotone singers like eric avery (deconstruction, polar bear) which twiddle thumbs normally hates but she's really into the vocals of she wants revenge so that says something.
